What Customers Say About Iomega 31310 Zip 250 MB USB-Powered Drive:

I got the Zip 250 USB cause my FireWire to SCSI adapter failed to work after a little more then five years of use and I have a lot of 100MB Zip disks. Also useful for transferring files between the Mac and a PC. I had a iOmega SCSI Zip Drive connected to a FireWire to SCSI adapter connected to Power Book G4 /Mac and iOmega SCSI Zip Drive connected to an old Apple IIGS computer this computer would be totally obsolete if I didn't have a SCSI Zip Drive to connected to it. I use it on the Mac side and it works well. I give it a four star cause it writes slow but it reads faster then it writes and its compatibility deserves five. I have several SCSI Zip Drives I got refurbished years ago when they stopped making them just in case. I use this setup to transfer files between the two which would be impossible without the Zip Drives.

The site said if none of the tips worked to call support. Which it had. I did, and since my unit was out of warranty, I had to pay $25 to talk to someone. I was able to get the disk out. IOmega told me they didn't have or recommend any adapters and that I'd have to buy a new zip drive. Like some of the other reviewers, I bought the original 100MB zip drive in the late 90s, which featured a serial port or parallel port (not sure which one). It was awesome. I didn't use it much at all.

I looked on the Iomega support site and followed their troubleshooting tips to no avail. Plastic utensils are made better. They said it was out of their scope and against company policy to tell me how take apart the unit to get my disk. (Hint: The ejection mechanism is on the belly of the device and hardest to get to).Anyway, so now I have to order yet another zip drive so I can transfer all my data to another medium, then I will kiss my zip drive goodbye. After I asked to speak to a supervisor, my $25 was refunded to me.I broke apart the device with a screwdriver (not easy, by the way) to find that the ejection mechanism was made out of the flimsiest and most brittle plastic I have ever seen -- like the mechanism was designed to break. Maybe 10 times. So I asked, "You mean to tell me I paid $25 for you to tell me the device is broken and you won't tell me how to get the disk out." I was ticked. But then a few years later I got a new computer that didn't have the port I needed to connect the device.

After getting connected they said that if their posted troubleshooting tips don't work for getting out disk, the unit is broken. Then the device wouldn't eject my disk. So I purchased the IOmega 250MB USB drive. I got it out the other day to download some stored files and I got all sorts of errors.

Will definitely use them again. Great price for this product and the vendor shipped the next day.

I just got a brand new Mac and I was concerned that this will not run ok with my computer. Great job. Thanks so much for the excellent product and service. It worked well. Thanks again so much. I got the product "New" as listed and packaged nicely and safely. I needed this zip drive to retrieve all my old zip files for my portfolio.

This drive is USB powered so it is easy to connect to any computer that has a USB port.Although a bit old fashioned, I think Zip drives are a handy way to backup computer files. This a fine product that Amazon offered at a good price. I previously had internal Zip drives on my computer, but my new computer did not have the capability to install an internal Zip drive.
